The end is nigh for Windows Server 2008 and Windows SQL Server 2008

Microsoft has announced that Extended Support for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2 will end on January 14, 2020.

If this news wasn’t enough, the Extended Support for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 will end even sooner, on July 9, 2019.

But what does this mean?

The removal of extended support means you will no longer get access to critical security updates. This has several implications, including:

  • Increased risk of cyber attacks or data breaches
  • Potential failure to meet compliance standard and industry regulations
  • Possible liability for data breaches and non-compliance with GDPR
  • Reduction in speed and performance

Can you take the risk of any – or all – of the above?

We thought not.
