Public, Private or Hybrid Cloud? Which approach is right for your business?

Public Cloud | Microsoft Azure

The main examples of public cloud environments are Microsoft Azure and AWS, Cloud Geeni partner with Microsoft to provide public cloud deployments to our clients.

Choosing a public cloud approach means that the cloud resources your business uses, such as servers and storage are operated and owned by the third-party cloud service provider (such as Microsoft Azure).

The server infrastructure is owned by Microsoft Azure and managed by Cloud Geeni, this also includes supporting software. Your business will share the network, hardware, and storage with other organisations, sometimes referred to as “Cloud Tenants”.

A public cloud deployment can provide lower costs however a skilled internal IT team will be required to monitor the environment, allocate resources, scale, and manage the landscape.

Many businesses choose to outsource this task to an IT Managed Service Provider, such as Cloud Geeni equipped with the skills and knowledge to build, maintain and support their end users across a public cloud environment.

Private Cloud

The main difference between a private and public cloud approach is that your business will not share it’s network or resources with any other organisation.

Your private cloud infrastructure is hosted via our secure, UK based data centre, making this approach the obvious choice for businesses that hold sensitive data such as legal and financial firms.

Your private cloud environment is fully managed by Cloud Geeni’s in house team of engineers including security updates, patching, resource allocation and end user support.

The private cloud approach can offer greater flexibility, as our engineers can customise your environment to meet your specific business needs.

Your resources are not shared with other users on the network, increased privacy and control are achieved with a private cloud environment.

Hybrid Cloud

The Hybrid cloud approach includes a combination of on-premise server infrastructure with a public or private cloud.

Clients with legacy applications or systems that require an on-premise server can use a hybrid cloud to switch between the two environments.

If your business holds sensitive client data or you have recently invested in physical server hardware, a hybrid cloud approach would allow your company to take advantage of the cloud whilst retaining your data on site and maximising your hardware investment.

A hybrid approach to cloud adoption allows for flexibility and control, running certain workloads in the cloud with sensitive client data remaining on-site.

Another advantage of hybrid cloud is the staggered approach your business can take towards a full cloud migration.

Cloud Geeni can create a roadmap for your business to achieve a full migration over a time frame that suits your business needs.
